HelpOn the floor

On the floor

The four things a tech does, each in a few lines. Print it or read it on the phone.

Put a set away

  • Put away → whose tires these are, what the tires are, where they go. About ninety seconds.
  • If they have been here before, search their name at the top and the rest fills in.
  • The set number is already filled in. Type over it only if the tires already carry a number.
  • At the end you get the label to print, or the chalk mark to write on the tire.

Find a set

  • Type any part of what you know: part of the surname, three letters of the plate, the phone number, the set number or the shelf code.
  • Search less, not more. “doucet” finds Doucette; the whole name typed with a space in the wrong place finds nothing.
  • Or press Scan label and point the phone at the label on the tire.
  • The shelf code comes back big enough to read from the door. That is where you walk to.

Rack it, move it, hand it back

  • Open the set and the three buttons are the three things that happen to it: the customer is swapping, the customer is picking these up, or it moves to another spot.
  • Move to another spot changes the code on the label, so print the new one or re-chalk it.
  • The shelf frees up on its own. Nothing has to be tidied up afterwards.

Photos and labels

  • Six photos per set. Take them at intake, while the wheel is in your hand and the customer is still there.
  • Tapping + asks what it is first — “scuff on the inside of the near-side rim, already there” — and then opens the camera. That sentence is what answers “you scratched my rim” in April.
  • No printer? Chalk it. The app gives each set a short mark — D001 for Doucette’s set 1001 — and searching finds it by the mark or by the number.
  • A label that fell off is reprinted from Labels. Nothing about the set changes.

No signal in the container

  • Keep working. What you do is kept on the phone and goes to the office on its own once you are back in signal.
  • The badge at the top says how many are waiting. Do not sign out until it says everything is saved.
  • Signing in needs signal. Sign in at the shop before you walk out to the container, not at the container door.
  • It is kept on the phone itself, so you can close the app, lock the phone or let the battery go flat — what was waiting is still waiting, and goes the next time you have signal.
  • The one exception is a private window, where the browser keeps nothing after you close it. The badge says “to send” instead of “saved here” when that is what you are in.
